Bunscoil McAuley Rice Primary School in Callan, Co. Kilkenny
is a  Champion School of Sanctuar
y.

We are very proud to be a School of Sanctuary here in Bunscoil McAuley Rice.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that is dedicated to being a safe and welcoming place for all, particularly those seeking sanctuary. Every family is looking for sanctuary in some way, though some need sanctuary more than others as a result of the circumstances they may find themselves in. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that supports its children, staff and wider community and extends a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.

Did you Know?

Twenty Five different nationalities attend Bunscoil McAuley Rice and all our students are made feel very welcome and safe.

We support UNESCO Development Goal number four which aims to ensure that those in vulnerable situations are not excluded or marginalised from or within our schools.

There are three simple principles to being a School of Sanctuary:

1. LEARN about what it means to be seeking sanctuary.

2. TAKE POSITIVE ACTION to embed concepts of welcome, safety and inclusion within school and the wider community.

3. SHARE your vision and achievements - be proud!

Bunscoil McAuley Rice is a school where, I am sure you will agree, this is part of our everyday ethos and values.
